Educational History: City View Class of 2012Midwestern State Class of 2016 Degrees and Certifications: Bachelor of Music Certification of Education: (All Levels- Music). About Me: My path to music education is definitely different than most. Growing up I wanted to follow my fathers foot steps to be in the Air Force, but as made my way through High School I wanted to do something different. My Papa used to always say "If you love what you do, then you'll never work a day in your life." I took this as my opportunity to find what I enjoyed the most in school which was always Band. Playing sports and doing other activities like theatre was always always something I enjoyed. However, music played the biggest role throughout my time in school. I started out playing saxophone until I transitioned into the percussion section for my first 4 seasons in the marching band. I decided to pursue music as a percussionist at Midwestern State where I graduated in December of 2016. My first teaching experience was in Holliday, TX where I coordinated the percussion section, and worked towards providing my students with the best education I possibly could. Moving forward after many life milestones I was presented the amazing opportunity to come back to my Alma Mater, and become the band director in the same school that provided me with so much opportunity. I look forward to my time at City View to support these students, and continue a tradition of excellence.

Hello everyone! My name is Cierra Rose Bentley and I am from Kennedale, Texas. During my time in Kennedale, I joined the middle school band when I was in 6th grade and my main instrument is the flute. I grew up in my town’s band program. Once I reached high school, I was competing in every competition I could. I am a 4-time All-Region band member, a 3-time All-Area band member, and a 2017 Texas All-State band member. I also enjoyed being a member of the leadership team at my high school as well. Once I graduated, I moved to Wichita Falls to attend Midwestern State University. I was originally a nursing major and left the program after two years to become a music education major. I joined the MSU Texas Golden Thunder Marching Band and became their drum major for two years. I also performed in various ensembles and straightened my knowledge of other instruments. During my time away from music, I enjoy camping, traveling, baking, reading, and gardening. I am the youngest of four girls and both of my parents are enjoying their retirement in Jefferson, Texas. I have a black pointer/retriever mix named Olive. I also recently adopted an orange tabby kitten named Mango. I’m so excited to be a part of the City View ISD band program/family. I can’t wait to see all of the things we accomplish this year!

The 2023-24 school year will be my 4th year as guard director/logistics coordinator. I was asked to build a color guard for City View by Mrs. Shawver, and have had the privilege of seeing it grow from one member to now 9 in marching band, and in winter guard from 6 members to 10. I am able to pour my heart and soul into each one of these kids because of the support I have from my husband of 12 years, and my talented sons, who are City View band alumni and are working on their degrees in music. I truly believe that the success of our band starts at the top, and am proud to call all of the directors family. We all work hard to make each day better than the last, and only want the very best for our students. The band hall is a place of expression, whether you are playing an instrument, spinning a flag or just need someone to talk to.

I am the Assistant Band Director/Percussion Coordinator here at City View. I am currently going into my second year here at City View, where I coordinate the Percussion Section for grades 6-12. Some of my other duties within the program include assisting the High School Band, Jr. High Band, 6th Grade Beginner Band, 5th Grade Elementary Music, and this year I will also be teaching a High School Music Appreciation class. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education (EC-12) in the Spring of 2022 at Midwestern State University where I participated in ensembles such as Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Band. In my time with these ensembles, I served in leadership roles such as Drumline Captain for Marching Band and Percussion Principal for Symphonic Band/Wind Ensemble. I also had the privilege of serving in the Music Service Fraternity on Campus, Kappa Kappa Psi, where I held multiple offices such as Treasurer and Chapter President. In my freshman year of College, I was honored to receive the 2018 Midwestern State University “Freshman Man of the Year” award. In my first year at City View, our Percussion Ensemble advanced to the State Solo and Ensemble contest and received a First Division Rating. At the region level, we had numerous students from both the High School and Jr. High that received superior ratings on their solos. Outside of school, I volunteer playing in the adult orchestra at First Baptist Church as well as teach private percussion lessons through the FBC Music Academy. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family, working on cars, watching the Dallas Mavericks, playing with my dog Addie, and working out. I am super excited to get to teach at my Alma Mater where I first fell in love with music and being part of an organization that made my High School experience so great. This is the experience I strive to give to our students in the City View Band program. I love working with my students and watching them grow not only in their musical abilities but also in their character as well. Music has always been my safe space where I felt I could express myself and strive to be my best, and seeing my students adopt the same mindset is what really drives me day in and day out. I am super excited for another year here at City View ISD!
